Vintage Printable: Free Art!

I just discovered Vintage Printable, a website that provides free, public domain/out of copyright images that you can download and print yourself or bring to Costco or another cost effective printer - there is no doubt that framing art can be the expensive part, but if the print is free that can really help! If you are looking for maps, botanical or animal prints, this is a great find. Some of the images are a little crooked, but this can be easily fixed in photo editing software before you print. You can search by color as well, so if you are looking for a print to complement a specific spot, that is nice. Here is a sampling of the types of prints you may find.

Help Sandy Hook

I saw this on Caitlin’s blog earlier today and wanted to share with you all.  The women of the site Small Fry and the flash sale site Brickyard Buffalo have teamed up to show their support for Newtown, CT, by compiling a collection of downloadable prints by different artists for $5 each.  All of the proceeds will go to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund through United Way

I’m buying this one to mix into the wall of my kids’ artwork.  I think it’ll be a sweet reminder.

The sale will run through Dec. 26th.
(And, an easy last minute Christmas gift idea.  Print and frame!)

Getting Creative with Picture Frames

When you move into a new house I feel like getting art on the walls in any strategic way is one of the last things to happen. I was really surprised to visit Shannon's new house and find that not only had she hung art but it had involved way more then banging some nails in the wall and crossing your fingers (my approach).

With the help of her mom, they collected frames from antique stores and thrift shops, sprayed them a glossy white and then hung them. Sounds simple but you can tell by how well the frames are hung that some strategy was definitely involved.  I love the framed birds - it really brings it to another level.

DIY Blown Up Photography

Simple and dreamy. I am inspired by these photographs because I think this would be a fantastic DIY project. By taking a simple nature or family shot adding lots of light and maybe some sepia tones, printing in poster format at Staples for a few $ and the most expensive part would be the frame. This will be my weekend project. A piece like this in the bedroom would be nice to gaze as as you drift off to sleep no?
