YES you CAN spray paint ceramic!

I purchased this garden stool over a year ago and when it arrived the color was so much more saturated then I thought and it was final sale (a very good deal). I wanted to spray paint it but I kept being told that you could not spray paint ceramic. Boo and not true! I read a few blog posts about spraying glass and ceramic and the truth is that you can spray both, you just need to use a gloss top coat to seal the paint. Enter my awkward yellow that doesn't match anything garden stool.

You have to go very slow with something like this so that you do not have any drips. I did 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of gloss. I made sure to spray from at least 8"-12" away. After I painted it gray I wasn't crazy about the final color so I decided not to put the gloss seal coats on because I am guessing I will choose a different final color. I thought it would be a much paler gray. I wanted to do white but I was trying to be more adventurous. However, I think white is where this will end up. Either way the gray is much easier on the eyes then the yellow.

  1. Thank you so much for this article. I was confused for a long time but after reading this, I am willing to try my hands on it.

The only thing I am worried about is the life of the final product.

  4. Hello, I, too, have a ceramic stool that looks quite the same in design. Would you be so kind as to tell me the makers of the spray paint that you used. It definitely provides an excellent glossy finish which is beautiful! Thank you! email: tashiraldi@aol.com Teresa
